When I first heard Summer Camp’s “Ghost Train” via GvB last year, I couldn’t help but love this infectious track — coming off as innocent as can be, with that dreamy chorus that was stuck in my head for weeks.  The only problem was I knew absolutely nothing about them, as they followed that awful trend of being one of those mysterious bands that no one knew absolutely nothing about.  It’s something I hope is not followed in 2010, because it quickly killed any interest I had in them…well, at least until I saw this video over the weekend.

The video that was released, according to Stereogum, borrows scenes from the 1969 X-rated film Last Summer. There also seems to finally be some information in regards to the band, which is the creation of a London-based duo Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth Sankey. There also seems to be a 7″ in the works via Moshi Moshi that is currently available for pre-order. That seems to be about it, but I honestly don’t feel like digging anything else about them. Though, you can read all of that bloated NME hype from last year if you wish!

The Swell Season (Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová from the film Once — yes, people still don’t know this) were on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien last week for those that happened to miss it; and while I still haven’t listened to much of the new album yet, I was curious as to what everyone’s opinion is on it who have heard it.  I ask this because as I was sitting on the couch watching the performanc with my sister, she mentioned midway through “Low Rising” that she didn’t like the song at all.  I actually enjoyed the song, but I wonder how different an experience it is to just hear the new material on its own merit, without the added emotional connection/bond that the film had with its own soundtrack .

Watching Once even recently, the film still delivers on an emotional level.  I still listen to the soundtrack quite frequently, and I have a feeling that once I actually listen to the new record that I won’t have any qualms about it.  Still, I feel like it’s an interesting topic, regardless.  What are your thoughts on it?  Has enough time gone by that the band is unable to coast on the film’s success?

The duo is also currently in the midst of a North American tour, including a date right here in Salt Lake City on November 28th.  You can check the full list of dates here.

Here’s a little something to kick off your weekend in fashion, as this Animal Collective remix of Phoenix’s “Love Like A Sunset” made its debut via Discobelle.

As we all know, remixes are a dime a dozen nowadays, especially as of recently in regards to Phoenix-related remixes. In fact, around the time I found this one in particular, my inbox had about four other Phoenix remixes from some people I’ve never even heard of.

It’s just nice to actually hear a remix with some substance without it trying so desperately to be club worthy.

MP3: Phoenix :: “Love Like A Sunset” (Animal Collective Remix/Deakin’s Jam)”

Here’s a little snippet from Deakin of Animal Collective in regards to this Phoenix remix:

“This spring i was in Panama with Brian. We were cramped into a van on a bumpy, winding Central American road going a little too fast. Feeling a little edgy, I put on my headphones and listened to United and Alphabetical back to back. I watched passing fruit stands, a sweet central american dusk and memories of the massive schools of jelly fish, snapper, and trevally; the few dolphin and even the few bluefin tuna (too few) that Brian and i had just had the joy of diving with. The blend of all of these things put me at ease. Phoenix has been a staple for all four of us since Dave and Noah brought home United from the record store they used to work at. One of the records that would get us through some of those long cross country tour drives, we’ve listened to Phoenix’s jams many many times. We were all totally psyched to get asked to do this and it was super fun to work on it. All the best to those dudes.”

To keep the goods coming, You Ain’t No Picasso recently posted a full video of Grizzly Bear and Victoria Legrand of Beach House performing the song “Slow Life” together in Columbia, Missouri.

If you hadn’t heard already, this is one of the many tracks from some well-known musicians making its way onto the New Moon (along with Thom Yorke, Death Cab For Cutie, Bon Iver/St. Vincent, etc.) soundtrack.

Definitely cringe-worthy, but just think of some thirteen-year-old picking this up and receiving a proper musical education. I think with that in mind, I’m perfectly okay with it.

In one of the more exciting, and at the same time disappointing, recent tour announcements came in the pairing of St. Vincent and Andrew Bird for a number of dates that started at the beginning of September.  I only say disappointing as there were no tour dates remotely nearby.

Of course, I come across this live session of the two simply jamming playing together in front of a small crowd somewhere in France I imagine.  The video is excellent, especially towards the end as Bird adds his violin skills to a few choice tunes from Annie Clark’s recent record.  This only hammers home how bummed I am to not be able to attend any of their shows together.

Remaining tour dates can be seen after the cut.

Found these videos in my inbox early this morning, and figured they were worth posting.  I tend to completely skip over these, but the quality of the videos were good enough to give it a mention. This set of acoustic sessions features a set of three songs from Marissa Nadler and Camera Obscura.

Hit up Grand Crew for more videos from a ton of artists, with recent additions of the acoustic variety like St. Vincent.

Annie Clark aka St. Vincent recently performed a set of three solo acoustic songs as part of the “Lake Fever Sessions”, which documents artist performances with HD video and multitrack audio.  The three songs include “Actor Out of Work” and “The Strangers” both of which can be found on the latest album, Actor — along with bonus track “Oh My God”.

We’ve already went at length about this new project from Belle & Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch, but here’s the video for the first single off the self-titled album due out June 23rd in the US.  You can read the full post on the band here.
