Pants Yell! This edition of the Graboid is all about the unknown, as I wouldn’t be surprised if you haven’t heard about many of these releases (I haven’t, at least).  Though, there are a few notable names scattered throughout including MF Doom and Ola Podrida.

There is one album that I highly recommend checking out, which is Received Pronunciation, the fourth release from Pants Yell! which also marks their debut with Slumberland Records.

As always, feel free to recommend anything I may have left off!

Pants Yell!

Here’s to more of the overwhelming amount of good news coming out of the Slumberland camp, as Pants Yell! have announced via their myspace that their new album Received Pronunciation will be out on CD/LP on November 10th via Slumberland Records.  My goodness, that label has been on a complete tear this year with the amount of great records they’ve been releasing.

If you head over to their myspace page, you can stream a new song called “Cold Hands” off the forthcoming release, which Matt over at Skatterbrain mentions is a previous song that has been completely reworked and overhauled.

I seriously can’t wait to hear this one, as Alison Statton was one of my absolute favorites of 2007.  Seriously, go listen to that one if you haven’t had a chance, you won’t be disappointed. Hopefully, the band can garner some Pains-level attention once the new album is eventually released.

There’s never a good explanation for whenever I feel the need to put together these completely random mixes.  I think tonight I just needed to put my mind at ease, and the following just happened to be the songs that did this for me.  Listening to these bring about feelings of nostalgia, hopefulness, and an eagerness for what’s to come.  Tomorrow could bring about a completely different set of songs, but I’m just going to sit back and enjoy these for the time being.  Hopefully, you enjoy these too.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart (2009)

Get Lost (1995)
The Radio Dept. :: “Lost and Found”

Reading all of the news, emails and just about everything else revolving around SXSW has me a little sad that I once again (three times straight since I started blogging) am not able to partake in this year’s proceedings.  As always, I say to myself “Hey, maybe next year!” but for the time being I will just stew here in my chair until next week. Knowing that isn’t really productive, I figured why not make a little mix to cheer myself up?  What else can turn a frown upside down than a bunch of fun pop songs, or even for a random, lazy Sunday afternoon.  Hope this finds you in happy spirits!

skatterbrain-comp-buy

One of my favorite bloggers, Matt at Skatterbrain, recently put out a fantastic indiepop CD-R compilation over on his blog.  The tracklist is outstanding, including tracks from the likes of Pants Yell! and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.  Each copy comes in a lovely handmade sleeve, which you can see in the image above, with only a limited run of 150 copies being made available.

At one point, nearly a week ago, only about 75 copies were still able to be purchased, so who knows how many are still around if any.  So yeah, head over there now and pick up a copy (it’s only $8!).
