I’ve known about Bishop Allen for as long as I’ve been running this blog, but for some reason or another I just have never listened to any of their records. A few of those including Anni Rossi’s Rockwell (crappy cover not withstanding), Madeline’s White Flag, Mirah’s (a)spera, Handsome Furs’ Face Control, and Elvis Perkins’ Elvis Perkins in Dearland.

An album i’ve been enjoying as of late comes from Anni Rossi, who currently resides in the Chicago area and recently added to the mighty 4AD label.  Ms. Rossi, a 23-year old classically trained and accomplished multi-instrumentalist, has been around for a couple of years now, as i’ve seen her mentioned in a few places going as far back as 2006.  She plays a type of sound that I’ve suddenly decided to dub as “viola-pop.” What is this you may ask?  I honestly have no idea, but her acoustic-based songs revolve around the almost frantic-like use of a viola, so there you have it.

Her debut full-length, Rockwell, is due out on March 10th.  Definitely worth checking out if you’re curious.
