Reading all of the news, emails and just about everything else revolving around SXSW has me a little sad that I once again (three times straight since I started blogging) am not able to partake in this year’s proceedings. As always, I say to myself “Hey, maybe next year!” but for the time being I will just stew here in my chair until next week. Knowing that isn’t really productive, I figured why not make a little mix to cheer myself up? What else can turn a frown upside down than a bunch of fun pop songs, or even for a random, lazy Sunday afternoon. Hope this finds you in happy spirits!

I meant to start back this back up last Sunday, but as you all know the site decided to throw up on itself. The plan was to include a bunch of songs carried over from last year that didn’t make the cut on the song list, and just have something fun for all of you to listen to on this lazy afternoon. Listening to a lot of these, i’m questioning myself as to why I forgot about how I forgot about some of them in the first place.
For those unfamiliar, every Sunday (not consistent at all) I would tackle any number of randomly selected songs. The format would change every so often, but the result always remains the same.
MP3: Mystery Jets :: “Young Love (feat. Laura Marling)”
- Ever seen a picture of these guys? Ugly dudes.
MP3: Minisnap :: “New Broom”
- Another good song from a band I never really mentioned on the blog.
MP3: The Lodger :: “Good Old Days”
- Jangly guitar goodness.
MP3: The School :: “Let it Slip”
- This is a fine pop song, in the vein of other 60s girl group revivalists (ex. Lucky Soul, Pipettes, etc.)
MP3: Noah and the Whale :: “Five Years Time”
- I think this was on some car commercial. Just maybe.
MP3: Headlights :: “Cherry Tulips”
- Love the chorus on this one.
MP3: Ra Ra Riot :: “Oh, La”
- I never mentioned Ra Ra Riot at all last year, but I always liked this song.
MP3: The Radio Dept. :: “Freddie & The Trojan Horse”
- Bring out that new album right now. Thanks.
MP3: Lightspeed Champion :: “Tell Me What It’s Worth”
- This song introduced me to Emmy the Great. A million thank-you’s.

I’ve been completely overwhelmed this week with so many great albums, that I wish gas prices weren’t so ridiculous so I could just drive around town and listen to them all. At the moment, i’m currently just sitting around figuring out what to do on this lovely Sunday afternoon (kinda cloudy, though). I put together this quick batch of songs that would make a decent soundtrack to kick back and relax to. Sometimes it’s easy to forget how fun it can be to put little mixes like this together. While listening to all these random songs, I wonder why I don’t do this more often. Anyways, so what albums have you been listening to this weekend?
MP3: Fleet Foxes :: “Blue Ridge Mountains”
MP3: Kevin Drew :: “Aging Faces / Losing Places”
MP3: Page France :: “Windy”
MP3: Port O’Brien :: “I Woke Up Today”
MP3: Fanfarlo :: “Sand And Ice”
MP3: Great Lake Swimmers :: “Your Rocky Spine”
MP3: The Dodos :: “Fools”
MP3: Arthur & Yu :: “There Are Too Many Birds”
MP3: Voxtrot :: “The Start of Something”
MP3: Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin :: “Think I Wanna Die”

The last time I did one of these remix editions was way back in April of last year. It’s definitely been a long time coming, and I know that a lot of you really enjoy these types of posts. I’m still just really amazed at how rapid the pace of remixes get churned out onto the internet now-a-days. It’s just that the amount of remixes that are released on a daily basis is practically overwhelming, and is nearly impossible to keep up with everything – unless this site was completely devoted to that sort of thing. Anyways, hope you enjoy these tracks, and feel free to recommend any other great remixes that you’ve heard lately. Maybe they’ll make it onto the next remix list….whenever that will be.

After many weeks and months of putting off posting The Sunday Shuffle, i’ve finally gotten around to putting together a set of songs for your weekly enjoyment. For those unfamiliar, every Sunday (for the most part) I would tackle any number of randomly selected songs – the format would change every so often, but the result remained the same.
Early this morning, after another wasted night here in Auburn sitting around with people who’s company I don’t even enjoy, I decided to rip a few cds – actually, a lot of cds – that had been sitting in a case in the back of my car for almost four to five years. What’s special about this case is that about 90% of it contains albums from 2003, which is pretty much the year that I really cemented my taste in music into what it is right now. There hasn’t been a year since that i’ve bought as many cds, and with digital downloading now becoming the norm — it’s possible that this feat will probably never present itself again.
I’m actually quite proud of most of the music that I managed to discover at the time, because there were no blogs, or anything of the kind to educate a guy from Alabama trying to break out of his love for all things Britpop & electronica (still love them both though). Anyways, here are some tracks that I culled from the albums that I uploaded onto my iTunes this morning. Are there any albums or songs from 2003 that come to mind that you would’ve included? Let me know!

Now that Pablo has finally emailed his album list, I can finally get to work on putting together our year-end list. The only thing i’ve worked on so far is the post image, as I like to wait until I have everything together before working on something. If everything goes as planned, it should be up Monday morning. Until then, here’s another random mix to, hopefully, satiate everyone’s appetite.
“Um, Circles and Squares” :: Dosh
“Consequence” :: The Notwist
“A Paw In My Face” :: The Field
“Ghostwriter” :: RJD2
“Decisions, Decisions” :: Nobody & Mystic Chords of Memory
“Black Cat” :: Broadcast
“Soft or Gentle” :: LEYODE
“Teen Angst” :: M83
“Run” :: Air

For the past month or so, I would venture to say that new music has been somewhat nonexistent. It’s partly the reason for the complete lack of posts and it will more than likely last throughout the end of the year. Not to say that i’m shutting things down or anything like that, but just don’t be surprised if there isn’t as many posts as you’re used to.
Sometime during the upcoming weeks, we will be posting our top albums of the year and possibly a few other lists as well. I’ve been spending the weekend trying to put mine together and of course it’s been a headache. To be honest, there really hasn’t been a clearcut #1 album for me personally – though that could change as I continue to go back and listen to some of my choices so far.
One other thing I wanted to mention is that i’d like to start off the next year with a new contributor. I think I go through this every so often and I feel like the time has come again to see if anyone is interested in being a part of this blog. If there is any interest, do feel free to email me about it. It’d be nice to have a fresh face around here with the rest of us.

The Sunday Shuffle is back for a second week in a row and i’m sure most of you are pretty excited to see that. Well, at least I hope you are. I really love this week’s set of songs as if you already didn’t notice, each of these are female vocalists. I remembered I did a post like this at one point last year, but these songs are more current or have been recently released within the past year.
Anyways, I really don’t feel like typing anything today, so we’ll just let the music do the talking. I hope you enjoy and have a great weekend!

Many weeks have past since The Sunday Shuffle has made an appearance and i’ve been surprised at how much people enjoyed listening to these silly mixes. I’ve just been kind of busy with other chores to keep up with it on a weekly basis, but I will have something for all of you every other Sunday at least. We’ll see though, since I haven’t been keeping up with promises too well around here.
I kind of have an idea for future installments though, as I wanted to possibly let our readers contribute their own random mix or something to post for everyone to listen to. What do you think about that? If you’re interested, just email me or leave a little comment.
