The Flaming LipsNot quite the stellar lineup of releases this week, but there are still some great records to be had with The Flaming Lips’ latest, Embryonic leading the pack.  Also not to be completely overshadowed are releases from Thao Nguyen, Neon Indian, Imaad Wasif, Grant-Lee Phillips, and Fanfarlo who’s debut finally get a proper US release after being available digitally for what feels like forever.

As always, feel free to recommend anything I may have missed.

Air2After quite a long absence, the Graboid is back and this time around with a proper title. As much as I liked the original ‘The Daily Graboid’ title, in the grand scheme of things it just never really made much sense considering it had always been a weekly post. I’ve always meant to have the change eventually, but considering how long it’s been since I’ve last put this up, it just felt right to start back anew with this different title.

So with that being said, you can expect to see this every Tuesday since I know a lot of you actually do your music shopping on the actual day of releases. I know that I probably will now since I actually live near some record shops.

This week brings an abundance of excellent releases from the likes of Air, The Clientele, Kurt Vile, The Dutchess & The Duke, Mission to Burma, The Mountain Goats, The Raveonettes, and current blogger favorites The XX (my opinion on them has soften a bit, but I still don’t think they’re that great).

As always, if there is anything I may have missed, feel free to recommend it to us.

Postmarks1Okay, okay, I know that I said the Daily Graboid would return to it’s original weekly state, but I was out of town all of last week so I’m hoping you can cut me a little slack this one time.

I’ve never been this busy in a very long time, as I’ll be moving for the second time this month starting at the beginning of next week. If you’re curious, I’m going to be moving from Alabama (where I’ve lived my entire life, sadly enough) to Salt Lake City. It’s taken me a while to warm up to the idea, but it’s better than my current situation. So if any readers are from around the area, let me know! Would be great to meet some new people once I get settled in.

Now with that out of the way, we can get to the new album releases from the past week. For two week’s worth of stuff to browse through, there isn’t a whopping amount of “must buys” as far as I’m concerned, but there’s a fair share of quality albums to pique your interest. With new albums/EPs from the likes of Mew, Imogen Heap, Blitzen Trapper, Young Galaxy, Sally Shapiro, The Cave Singers, and The Postmarks. The latter of which completely caught me by surprise as I didn’t even know they were working on a follow-up to their criminally overlooked self-titled debut.

As always, feel free to recommend anything I may have left off.

MSRI’ve been incredibly busy the past couple of weeks (primarily moving, among other things) and I’m just now finally getting settled in. I don’t think I’ve had this kind of incessant time away from blogging since I started this thing, but hopefully things will get back to normal around here.

What better way to kick things off than with The Daily Graboid, as this will be another chunk of the last month or so of releases that I’ve missed. Starting next week I will probably get back to a weekly posting of this, so I’m sure that will at least please the majority of you.

Feel free to recommend anything I may have missed!

Discovery2Through sheer laziness, I’ve flirted around with the idea of compiling The Daily Graboid every two-three weeks as opposed to the regular way of doing it once per week. I’m not sure which format I prefer, so I’ll just leave it up to you guys. To be honest, I’m leaning towards just sticking with the original format. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it — right?

Anyways, as you can see with the list, I’m missing a few of the bigger releases from the past few weeks (Regina Spektor, Wilco, etc.). With so much ground to cover, I decided to just include the albums that had a free download attached to it, so if there’s anything I may have left off, feel free to let us know!

Dirty Projectors3As you may have noticed, along with the lack of posts going on around here, the Graboid has seemingly disappeared as well the past couple of weeks. To catch everyone back up to speed, I’ve decided to post the album releases from the past few weeks that we’ve missed along with everything from this week. I’m sure I may have missed some releases, but I think I’ve covered most of the important stuff for the most part. As usual, let us know what album(s) you’ve been excited about and if we managed to forget anything!

grizzly-bearLots of great releases this week, which include two highly anticipated albums from both Grizzly Bear and Phoenix. Definitely worth picking each of these up as they each live up to lofty expectations, and I’m sure they will be populating many people’s year-end lists. A few other interesting releases include Black Moth Super Rainbow’s Eating Us and Viva Voce’s Rose City.

Anything else worth picking up this week? Let us know if we happened to leave off anything!

passion-pit2You can’t really look anywhere without at least hearing someone mentioning Passion Pit and their debut titled Manners. I’m not exactly on the bandwagon quite yet, as I still think the lead singer’s falsetto makes me want to pull my hair out. But for the most part, the music itself is catchy and that can make the difference in some instances.

From the singer-songwriter side of the spectrum, you’re in luck, as a few well-known names have new albums out this week including John Vanderslice and Iron & Wine with a 2-CD set of unreleased material.

A few other releases I’m excited to listen to this week would have to be Au Revoir Simone’s Still Night, Still Light, Jarvis Cocker’s Further Complications (despite that horrid single), Jason Lytle’s (formerly of Grandaddy) Yours Truly, The Commuter, White Rabbits’ It’s Frightening, and Polly Scattergood’s self-titled debut.

casper21Not a wide variety of releases this week, but there are usually a few gems to be had if you’re willing to dig around. A few worth checking out include Casper & the Cookies Modern Silence, Cause Co-Motion! and their 12-inch EP Because Because Because, The Wooden Birds’ Magnolia, and Hanne Hukkelberg’s Blood from a Stone.

As always, feel free to recommend anything we may have missed!

stvincent2I’m currently in the midst of my second listen through St. Vincent’s sophomore album, Actor, and the hype is well justified as far as I’m concerned. Definitely pick up what will undoubtedly be one of the best albums this year.

Other notable releases worth checking out include the very good Portland group Starfucker and their latest, Jupiter; Akron/Family’s Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free; Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band’s Outer South; and Deradoorian’s (Angel from Dirty Projectors) Mind Raft EP.
