Blair, a former New Orleans native now residing in Brooklyn, is another of the many acts that made some headway at last month’s SXSW. Though, I remember her bursting onto the scene in 2007 with her Pluto EP, she had recently released a new full-length back in January on Aquarium Drunkard’s label Autumn Tone.
I’ve been listening to Die Young over the past couple of weeks and have really enjoyed the simple pop songs that are littered throughout. And while Blair’s vocals are very sweet, the songs are anchored by some very 90s guitar-driven melodies that gives the record a bit of angst — almost like a very light, sweet-sounding version of Cat Power (that may be pushing it, though).
