Local Natives are an L.A. five piece that have drawn comparisons to Fleet Foxes due to their harmonizing melodies; however, I would think of this band as their rocking cousins, blending their harmonies with some rapid beats and twisting guitar parts. The end result may be made from familiar pieces–a little Grizzly Bear here, a little Animal Collective or Yeasayer there–, but put it all together you get something that sounds fresh and, at least at first listen, memorable. The first single, “Sun Hands,” is below, and offers up a nice representative slice of what to expect on their debut album, Gorilla Manor, which will be out in the U.S. via Frenchkiss on February 16 (adding to an already stacked first two months of the year), while those living in the UK can already pick it up. Take a listen, and enjoy…

And if you want a little more, here is a nice live acoustic rendition of another album track, “Cards & Quarters” (via winniecooper.net).

these guys are way more of a rock band than fleet foxes. I get the harmonies thing, but that’s the only stylistic similarity between the two I really feel. Both bands are awesome, but I wouldn’t categorize them together.
Yeah, I didn’t really think of Fleet Foxes when I heard them (except for the above acoustic video), I just mentioned the Fleet Foxes thing because of how many other music reviewers/bloggers were comparing them. I agree 100%- FF are a folk band, LN are a rock band.
Definitely not Fleet Foxes. Definitely. :p
I’ve loved these guys since I heard a few months before thier album dropped in the UK. I posted about them a few weeks ago and on MusicVagabond. http://musicvagabond.tumblr.com/post/273989563/local-natives-gorilla-manor
We are definitely of similar opinion on this one. They are one of my bands to watch for 2010 I think they are gonna blow up in the new year!
They used to be known as Cavil At Rest, so look that name up for more music.
