Yeasayer’s debut album was one of my favorite surprises a couple years back, and it left me not only wanting more, but very curious as to where they would take their sound. In February, their sophomore disc Odd Blood will hit stores, but we’re already getting the first taste in “Ambling Alp.” It’s a slice of bizarro pop that has had me hitting the repeat button, with a chorus both ridiculously simple and completely infectious. At the very least, it will help tide us over until next year, when we can hear the rest of the disc.

This is great. The production is just bizarre enough to avoid being gaudy, and the harmonies near the middle are fantastic. I’d really like to see these guys live, just to see whats what…
I’ve been listening to this all day… a late season surprise favorite.
I saw them at Kilby Court a few years back. I went to see MGMT but Yeasayer stole the show and has since become one of my favorite bands of all time. Chris Keating has an incredible voice and stage presence and they have wonderful synergy as a whole. Ambling Alp is a little more poppy than I’d expected but it’s so damn pleasant. Can’t get enough. Love your blog, btw.
Yeah, I really dig this track as well. I wasn’t really big on Yeasayer until I heard their contribution to the ‘Dark Was The Night’ compilation.
