You can’t really look anywhere without at least hearing someone mentioning Passion Pit and their debut titled Manners. I’m not exactly on the bandwagon quite yet, as I still think the lead singer’s falsetto makes me want to pull my hair out. But for the most part, the music itself is catchy and that can make the difference in some instances.
From the singer-songwriter side of the spectrum, you’re in luck, as a few well-known names have new albums out this week including John Vanderslice and Iron & Wine with a 2-CD set of unreleased material.
A few other releases I’m excited to listen to this week would have to be Au Revoir Simone’s Still Night, Still Light, Jarvis Cocker’s Further Complications (despite that horrid single), Jason Lytle’s (formerly of Grandaddy) Yours Truly, The Commuter, White Rabbits’ It’s Frightening, and Polly Scattergood’s self-titled debut.

FYI, Passion Pit’s album is 2.99 on Amazon MP3 (I don’t know if it will still be tomorrow). For me, some of the songs are good enough to cancel out his voice, so the price was right…
The Iron and Wine rarities discs are great.
i’m severely disappointed with the white rabbits’ album. it feel so soulless and so cookie cutter. i really liked their debut and had high hopes for this one, especially upon learning brit daniels of spoon was going to produce it. instead, it feels too much like a wannabe spoon album.
the field album is good. i probably need to give it a few more listens, but i think i still prefer their debut, but it’s definitely good.
clues album is a nice treat. it’s not solid, but there are enough good songs on it to make it worth the listen and satisfy and post-unicorns cravings one might have. it’s certainly much better than the latest islands release, in my opinion.
i should give that au revoir simone a chance, since i’m going to be seeing the antlers open up for them in june.
totally agree with the passion pit comment. that falsetto grates after two/three songs so you have to listen to the album in doses. still pretty good though especially when he just signs normally. it definitely needs more juxtaposition.
