After hearing “Solid Gold” from The Golden Filter a while back on Gorilla vs Bear, I honestly had no plans on actually covering them here on the site considering, if you may have noticed, I haven’t covered anything of this ilk in a very long time. Even though I loved the hell out of this song — those penetrating beats are almost hypnotizing at first — I didn’t expect to hear much more about the band on my end. That being said, I randomly ended up seeing them at SXSW along with another similar artist that I haven’t been keeping many tabs on even though they’re mentioned nearly everywhere right now — which would be Little Boots. I wasn’t expecting to see either of them, but nothing is set in stone when it comes to SXSW.
My curiosity as of late has brought me back to The Golden Filter, and who, to my knowledge, still remain a mystery to most of the blogging public. Though, from bits of information I tried digging up, this electro-dance duo consists of record producer Stephen and Penelope who met in New York. As far as official releases go, their 7″ single of “Solid Gold” that’s currently out on UK label Dummy Records seems to be the only thing they have out at the moment, though, they have a slew of remixes that have been circulating. I usually avoid remixes now like the plague, but most of these are worth listening to, including remixes of Cut Copy, Peter Bjorn & John, and the aforementioned Little Boots.
