Shugo Tokumaru :: “Rum Hee”

After what I would consider a very successful 2008 here in the U.S. for the Japanese pop savant Shugo Tokumaru, which included the stateside release of Exit — one of my favourite albums of last year — on Almost Gold Recordings, along with a notable opening stint with The Magnetic Fields on their east coast tour; this incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist is back with what appears to be a brand new single called “Rum Hee.” Since the information regarding the single on the official website seems to be completely in Japanese, here’s the little bit of info I was able to dig up: Only available in Japan, the single will include a total of three new songs, along with a DVD that contains footage from his recent U.S. tour.
MP3: Shugo Tokumaru :: “Rum Hee”
Almost like a delicate explosion to the senses, “Rum Hee” seems to be bursting from the seams with acoustic guitars, bells, drums, and xylophone twinkles; all of which revolve around Tokumaru’s whisper-like vocals, which somehow manages to not be completely drowned out with all of the different instruments on display. If you’ve yet to jump on the bandwagon, you’re definitely missing out on what I would consider one of the most exciting musicians I’ve had to pleasure of listening to over the past year and a half.
