neon-indianI think I’ve started to become insensitive towards this recent string of mysterious musicians that have come out of nowhere. In the case of Neon Indian, an anonymous duo comprised of a male from Austin, Texas and a female from Brooklyn, New York. Hardly an image exists to represent them, which could be borderline infuriating for most, but I’m sure details will begin to emerge once they begin to garner more recognition. Their brand of lo-fi dream-pop brings to mind a couple of groups we’ve covered here in the past: Memory Cassette and Air France.

A couple of songs have emerged from their forthcoming EP, Psychic Chasms, including “Deadbeat Summer” which could easily find it’s way on a lot of summer mixtapes this year, and “6669 (I Don’t Know If You Know) a track that I’ve grown a bit fond of after listening to it numerous times over the past few weeks. The layered synths that permeate the song, along with the ghostly vocal melodies provide an almost tranquil feeling of isolation for a track that begs to be played repeatedly.

I am a huge italo disco fan and was upset to find out that Neon Indian ripped off of one of the genres most beloved song. I asked them about it on their myspace page but they erased my comments and blocked me. Obviously they are trying to pull a fast one. I wouldn’t care if they credited the song or wrote back to me but they didn’t have the decency to respond so I am going around spreading this information on blogs.

Listen for yourself and pass the information along if you feel inclined:

Other than that I really like their album, I just don’t like people that steal.

    Thanks!
