While the opinions on Watchmen have been decisively split down the middle, I think one thing we can all agree on the is the excellent opening credit sequence that plays over Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are a-Changin’.”  The company who created those credits, yU+Co, have made it available online to view in glorious quicktime. Cheers to to the folks at CHUD for the heads up.

To be honest, this was one of the only sequences where a pop song worked perfectly.  One of my major gripes with this film is that a lot of the choices of music feel completely out of place.

Check out the video after the cut below which I’ve embedded. My post seems to cut off some of the video size, so I have it set to auto-play.

Update: I think the video has been taken down. Sorry, folks.

So much greatness on display here: The JFK stuff, the effectiveness of the stories of Dollar Bill and Silhouette in just a couple of seconds, and Bowie! HAHA. So good.

hendrix’s all along the watchtower was a pretty uninspiring choice. Picked solely on “watch” being in the title. also my friend let me know they used evanescence for the comedian getting thrown out of the building scene.

I think most of the choices were supposed to be very tongue-in-cheek (i.e. Leonard Cohen “Hallelujah” during the sex scene). But others like “All Along the Watchtower” are referenced in the GN.

Tang, im pretty sure all the songs were referenced in the book in some way, and they just used them. But having read the book (and not seen the movie), i can imagine some songs conflicting with the scenes. I bet in the future this movie will be looked on as incredible though…

it was a good movie for this watchmen fan. it was as true to the novel as it could have been without too much compromise. truly, that opening sequence was great. it set the movie up so well.

All Along The Watchtower was used not because it has “watch” in the name it was used because that chapter in the graphic novel (where ror and night approach and attempt to thwart the baddy) was titled “Two Riders Were Approaching” a line from Dylans All Along the Watchtower… at the end of the chapter there was a quote “Outside in the distance, a wild cat did growl. Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.” directly from the song. It was greatly appropriate for that part of the movie.

the movie is so increidibly visually stunning, and so beatufily sophistcated and classic, that there is pretty much nothing that could ruin this movie. The action is so detailed(as well as evreything else)but the action is almost always slowed down just to show spectacular deatil,i admit the action is a little to brutal sometimes(cleaver to the head scene),and belive it or not the sex and nudity is actually pattionate, the sex scenes are well acted and directed, but the story line is so sophisticated and well put together, its just amazing(and so is the wonderful music)
