Cryptacize :: “Blue Tears”

The very first time I heard Cryptacize was at Athens Popfest last year (so bummed they aren’t doing it this year), and really gravitated towards the vocals of Nedelle Torrisi, as the band had this sort of frenetic type of 60s girl-pop going on. But I guess that use of the word ‘frenetic’ sorta makes sense as one of the other members that makes up this trio is ex-Deerhoof guitarist Chris Cohen. It was obvious that they were still a young band, and their sound was still trying to come together.
It seems as though they’ve done just that with the premiere of this new track off their second album, Mythomania, due out April 21st on Asthmatic Kitty. Torrisi’s vocal melodies are great, and seems to balance out everything else as it feels like Cohen’s guitar playing could possibly go off the rails at any moment. Two more tracks have been made available over at MOKB and Stereogum, so check those out. Thanks to GvB for premiering this one.
