Early glimpses of trailers from tonight’s Super Bowl

As i’m currently staying up to watch the Australian Open men’s final between Federer and Nadal, I can’t help but say a lot of my attention has been swayed towards the influx of Super Bowl spots for the upcoming summer flicks. I’m always a sucker for these high-budget tentpole movies, and hey, by watching these you possibly save yourself at least three hours of sitting through the Super Bowl.
The following videos I found via FirstShowing.net, which I initially found on Cable & Tweed (Boss Tweed can appreciate big, dumb summer flicks, too), as they’re the only site I could find with some decent quality embedded videos. There’s plenty of trailers to be seen, including a couple of others not shown here (Year One, Land of the Lost), but i’m sure there will be some more to actually watch during the Super Bowl tonight.
Clicky after the cut to see the goods, or non-goods?
G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra
This trailer is just plain silly, as evident by the shot of the Eiffel Tower getting destroyed by the ghosts from Return of the King, or whatever the hell that was. There’s no possible way to do a G.I. Joe movie without it being high-camp with a huge budget. Still curious to see Joseph-Gordon Levitt’s take on Cobra Commander.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Michael Bay has an actual franchise on his hands, and it looks like the motto going in for this one was “Let’s just make shit bigger.” Who knows what the fuck is going on this sequel, as the only thing I noticed was the ending shot of that giant piece of mess that Optimus jumped on. I’m pretty sure that was Devastator, or one of the constructicons (please, don’t judge me). Did you see this reveal of Soundwave? I swear, he shouldn’t be anything other than a transforming 80’s cassette tape.
Star Trek
Good grief, it’s becoming the summer of nerd nostalgia. All we need is a sequel to Master of the Universe and we’ve got ourselves a party. This flick honestly doesn’t interest me even in the slightest. I’m not a Star Trek fan, and probably still won’t be after this comes out.
Up
Pixar can do no wrong, and I have no doubt that I will enjoy this one. The previous teaser had a real Miyazaki type of aesthetic going on, but this clip just shows some banter between two of the main characters. Not really interesting.

Hang on! Did the G.I. Joe trailer actually just say “from the director of The Mummy”? Also as in the director of Van Helsing?
Ugh… I just got a headache.
You are correct, sir. Van Helsing put him in director jail, this is likely to keep him there.
the superbowl commercials were pretty funny. i enjoyed myself. i also enjoyed the game (!) all in all, a good night of television, including the office.
It’s ok to have a comment.
Were you going for Roger or Raffa? I was glad to see Raffa win. Roger acted a little out of character too I thought, chucking the odd little tantie every now and then. Perhaps he always carries on like that when he’s losing though – it happens so rarely that perhaps I just haven’t seen it before! It was a brilliant game, we haven’t seen a final like that here for years. Certainly more interesting than Serena’s win the night before.
