Ever since the very first moment I heard Lisa Hannigan’s ethereal voice on Damien Rice’s debut album O — which seems like many years ago — I just knew that she was destined to eventually put out her own solo work. Her contributions to that record went hand-in-hand with Rice in what made that one a success. Especially when you look at his follow-up (Lisa Hannigan didn’t make an appearance at all), as her notable absence all but doomed 9 Crimes.
But news of an eventual solo record was something I expected years ago, not here in 2009. I guess that old saying is correct in that things come to those who wait, and who knows, maybe 2009 might prove to be a breakout year for Ms. Hannigan. We’ll find out soon enough as her solo debut, Sea Sew, is set to be released on February 3rd. You can sample a track off the album called “Lille,” along with accompanying video.

Album was out in Ireland last year and it is quite good- Lille is excellent as is Splishy Splashy and Keep It All. She is touring a bit so hopefully she will get to where you are!
Thanks Tim! Looking forward to hearing it.
Hopefully her comeback from the boons is more than just in and out of the spotlight. Great post!
Hey stranger!
She’s touring the US very soon as I heard she’ll be there when the Choice Music Prize is on. It’s an Irish prize for the best album of the year and she’s nominated. Check out the other nine acts (well, except The Script) if you get a chance. This page links to all of their myspace/websites – http://choicemusicprize.com/
Sinéad! I didn’t know you were still blogging! Now, I feel bad that I haven’t kept up
Thanks for the link, i’ll definitely check that out!
I was struggling to remember her voice on “O,” but honestly I don’t care so much after seeing that video. That was really, really nice. Thanks.
