Well, I’m sure most of you have heard something about the indie super-compilation Dark Was The Night, a charity album that will benefit the Red Hot Organization in its fight against AIDS. I won’t say too much, except that after having the chance to hear it I can honestly say you usually don’t hear compilations this good. Usually there will be one or two good tracks, some phoned-in performances, and some tracks from so-so bands you’ve never heard of. Not here. Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Feist, the National, Spoon and a ton of other artists provide exclusive tracks and the result is a compilation that’s worthy of your purchase for both its great music and the great cause it is supporting. Head on over to the website to stream the National’s and Bon Iver’s additions, and below you can download the comp’s opener by David Byrne and the Dirty Projectors. And, every day, a different track will be streaming on the album’s myspace until its February 16th release date.
