burning-hearts

With the abundance of new songs coming from so many familiar faces, it’s starting to become frustratingly simple to let a great album slip beneath the cracks from any number of lesser-known artists. But here’s one small step towards rectifying that as I highlight this new album, Aboa Sleeping, from Finnish duo Burning Hearts, which has been delighting me to no end for the past month or so.

This little album, due out February 10th on Shelflife Records, contains some of the most finely crafted pop songs i’ve yet to hear so far this year.  But where the album’s real charms lie is with the lovely vocals of Le Futur Pompiste singer Jessika Rapo, who along with Cats on Fire drummer and multi-instrumentalist Henry Ojala, have created nine beautiful songs that manage to range from delicate and understated, to upbeat and joyful.  It’s almost like wrapping yourself in the warmth of everything great about indiepop, and a friendly reminder that not every charming pop song has to come from Sweden.
