500-days

Just caught the trailer for 500 Days of Summer, from director Marc Webb — though, according to IMDB,  his credentials seem to only include less than a handful of music videos.  Take that for what it’s worth.

I’ve been curious about this film for quite a while, primarily due to the two leads played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel.  The tagline for this one is simple enough: boy meets girl, boy falls in love, but girl doesn’t.  I’m always such a sucker for this type of schtick, so of course this interests me very much.  Here’s the synopsis via Fox Searchlight:

This post modern love story is never what we expect it to be — it’s thorny yet exhilarating, funny and sad, a twisted journey of highs and lows that doesn’t quite go where we think it will. When Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a hapless greeting card copywriter and hopeless romantic, is blindsided after his girlfriend Summer (Zooey Deschanel) dumps him, he shifts back and forth through various periods of their 500 days “together” to try to figure out where things went wrong. His reflections ultimately lead him to finally rediscover his true passions in life.

It’s release date is set for July 24th, but I have a feeling this will be limited release only.  Looks like another one that i’ll have to wait for on DVD.  Here’s the trailer below, but fair warning as the narration is seriously horrible.  The trailer song is called “Sweet Disposition,” from Australian band, The Temper Trap.

Yeah, I’m pretty excited for this movie also. JGL and Zooey are great together.

Marc Webb’s actually done a good number of music videos — Maroon 5, My Chemical Romance, Regina Spektor, AFI, All American Rejects, Weezer, Nelly, Snow Patrol, Gavin Degraw, 3 Doors Down — he definitely will have a handle on visual flair/pacing. And based on reviews coming out from Sundance, I think he nailed it.

i dig the narration and general style of the trailer. reminds me of the pulpy grindhouse trailers from the 70s. . .except it’s for a romance, hah
