During my short time in Athens over the summer, I was able to catch a lot of great bands from the area including powerpop four-piece, Casper & the Cookies.  I ended up buying a t-shirt of theirs, and I happen to wear it almost all the time when I walk around town.  Anywho, the band recently completed their follow-up to The Optimist’s Club, and though we won’t be able to get our hands on it until early 2009, they’ve generously made available four exclusive tracks to a few of our favourite blogs.  For a little more insight on the album, here’s an excerpt from frontman Jason NeSmith:

Modern Silence: a phrase that evokes a number of themes. We used most of them: awkward long distance phone calls– language barriers– social anxiety– absence (or a general lack of presence)–a sudden numbing realization that one can no longer think of oneself as a good person–extraterrestrial friendship—and of course jazz-mime.”
