I’ve already posted (a long time back) about the Mexican-via-Dublin acoustic duo Rodrigo y Gabriela. Their instrumental music if an energetic burst of classical Spanish guitar with a rock-minded edge (the two played in metal bands before forming this group). I’ve been loving their last self-titled album, but everyone tells me that live is the way to see this group. After hearing their new Live in Japan CD/DVD, I believe them. The melodies and rhythms have an extra dose of energy in their live incarnation, and it seems that Rodrigo y Gabriela thrive on that energy coming from the show includes the songs from their debut, as well as a handful of older and newer songs. It’s well over an hour of great music, and the 5 songs on the DVD further show how good these guys are. If the band ever comes near me, I’ll make sure to see them. Until then, I’ll enjoy this great live album, which is out Tuesday.

Here’s a link to a track off their last studio album, Rodrigo y Gabriela.
