Just when you thought we were so beyond 8-bit sound, Truckasauras shows up with an awesome name and audible proof that you can do an awful lot with old electronic equipment sequenced through a modified 1st-gen Gameboy. Residing somewhere between your favorite NES soundtrack and a melodic Prefuse-73 track, Truckasauras’s debut album, Tea Parties, Guns and Valor, takes the old sounds of electronica reminds you that it’s not the instruments you use, but how you use them. The tracks range from upbeat anthems you could use to soundtrack your next nerd party to moments of surprising beauty, such as “Angels Sound Like Bottle Rockets.” Tea Parties, Guns and Valor is out now, and ought to put a smile on the face of anyone who remembers happily the days before the Super Nintendo was even invented. Plus, anyone who mentions the mighty Konami Code in one of their song titles gets bonus points just for that, right?
