This is less a Popfest post and more of chance for me to gush a bit about The Smittens’ recently released and brilliantly titled record called The Coolest Thing About Love. Seriously, how can you not love that album name?! I only had a brief chance to listen to the new songs before heading over to Popfest, so I was a bit in the dark when the Vermont based twee group performed their set to kick off the final night at the 40-Watt Club. Not to say that I didn’t enjoy it, but I always tend to be a bit bothered when I don’t know a lot of the songs that are being played. Let’s just say that i’ve found more enjoyment in listening to this album in the past few weeks, especially with the transition from summer into my favorite season of the year.
Of course, judging by the name of the band, you should already know what to expect when listening to them for the first time. Call it whatever you will, but this is lo-fi indiepop at its best. Have a little taste for yourself with this video and accompanying MP3 of the single “Gumdrops.” The new album is currently available now Happy Happy Birthday To Me.
