If there had to be one song that single-handedly defined the summer 2008 for me, it would have to be Noah and the Whale’s “Five Years Time.” The band – who I first discovered through Taylor’s blog earlier in the year – have sort of made a name for themselves as of late as I have no doubt that you’ve heard the song countless times on the Saturn commercial that seems to constantly be on television everyday. Still, this breezy pop song is still as catchy as can be, and still manages to elicit a few hums of “love, love, love” from time to time.

I’m mentioning this now because the band’s new record, Peaceful The World Lets Me Down, will make it’s U.S. release next week. I’ve yet to listen to it myself, but i’m looking forward to picking it up just on the strength of it’s singles that have been floating around. In support of the album, the band will be hitting the road starting in Brooklyn on the day of the album release, along with a few free shows scattered throughout.

Check out the video for “Five Years Time” below, as it contains a style that pays homage to both Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach. The latter of which, the band takes it’s name from (The Squid and the Whale).

I like the percussion on this track, how it lays out of most of the time but is a pretty scrappy drum and bass when it does come in. And you’ve gotta love the little vibra-slap hits.
