it’s not too often – actually, never – that I receive anything in the mail from indiepop labels. So it was with some bit of excitement this afternoon when I tore open a package from London based DIY indiepop label, WeePOP! I’ve actually mentioned a few of their releases in the past, but never received anything physical from the label. Each of the releases are limited-run, and come hand crafted with a 3″ CD, along with individual packaging, stickers and candy! Seriously, the works. It’s really all just too cute, and it’s obvious that the label treats this stuff with absolute love and care.

The first of the two EPs that I received came from The Lorimer Sound, a five-piece from Chicago, which kind of remind me of a female fronted version of The Lucksmiths. Just a little jangly guitar-pop, with occasional synths thrown in for good measure. I’ve listened to it a few times in the past hour or so, it’s quite a nice little set of songs to kick back and relax somewhere with a good set of headphones.

The second EP is from Megamoog, which is primarily (I think, or a duo) the work of Megan Mock, who’s based in San Francisco. Working with a 1980’s Casiotone keyboard, an electic guitar, a three-piece drum kit, and the occasional iPod – these are songs that ring with a very minimalistic/DIY approach to indiepop. With Megan’s very soft-spoken voice, these songs almost feel like they could’ve easily been conceived while lying in bed or sitting on the couch. On their myspace page, I found this cute and amusing little quote, “We don’t have any fans, except our moms and dads.”
Each of these releases, along with WeePOP!’s entire catalogue are limited to only 160 copies, so definitely pick something up, because you would be supporting a wonderful little label.
