Georgie James

Before I moved to DC I used to joke that it wasn’t any use getting into DC bands since the thing that DC bands do best is break up. Since moving here, I’ve realized that nobody that lives in DC is from here (self included) and nobody that comes here stays which tends to end the local bands’ lifespans considerably. Add Georgie James to the bucket list. Yes, sadly the Emmy-nominated duo that put out the fantastic Places (one of PJ’s favorites of 2007, and one that I wish I could retroactively add to my favorite list as well) are taking time to do their own separate projects. Laura Burhenn has been doing solo work prior to Georgie James fame and will continue to do so and John Davis has a new project called Title Tracks that doesn’t sound too far off from the indie powerpop that Georgie James did so well. Merideth Munoz from local favorites and former Stars openers Pash is helping out with Title Tracks. All the same…fuck. I’m sad to see one of my favorite local acts bite the dust but I’m glad that I got to see and experience them over this past year and I wish both John and Laura best of luck on their future projects.
