Before you stop reading, I’ll grab your attention by saying that Department of Eagles features members of Grizzly Bear. Three of the four, in fact. Although, to be honest, this band predates Grizzly Bear’s existence by a couple of years, coming from Daniel Rossen’s college days, when he founded this band with Fred Nicolaus. The band’s current incarnation also features Chris Taylor and Chris Bear from Rossen’s other band, but don’t think this is the same as Grizzly Bear. Rossen’s voice is of course unmistakable, but the sound here is a little more direct and the lyrics more personal. In fact, this may be the perfect album for that friend of yours that doesn’t quite like Grizzly Bear (if you’re still friends with them)… The album, In Ear Park, is out 10/7 on 4AD, and it’s all this good.
