This is a bit of news that i’ve been quietly waiting for since The Rosebuds announced, via their myspace, that they were working on a follow-up to 2007’s incredibly underrated Night of the Furies.  It’s surprising to be expecting a new album from Ivan and Kelly so soon, but at the same time, I find it incredibly refreshing to see a band not take the typical two or three years off between records.  It just shows that the band just loves making music, and I have all the respect in the world for them because of that.

The new album, titled Life Like, will feature a variety of guests including Portastatic’s Matthew McCaughan, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, and Ashley Stove’s Jim Brantley.

Originally, the release date for the new album was set to be released on my birthday (Aug. 19), but it seems that the date has been pushed a bit further to October 7.  That’s a bummer (would’ve been a nice birthday present!), but after watching this video montage of footage from their past tour, spliced with bits of songs from the new record, it seems to indicate that the duo have ditched the synth-heavy pop of the last record.  I welcome the change, and hopefully we get more of the great indie-pop in vein of their debut and Birds Make Good Neighbors.
