No Graboid last week since there was pretty much nothing worth mentioning; though, this week brings us the highly anticipated eighth studio album, Modern Guilt, from Beck. Haven’t had a chance to listen to this one yet, but i’m always anxious to hear how Beck has managed to reinvent his sound which each new album. A couple of other releases worth mentioning include Ratatat’s very solid LP3, Albert Hammond, Jr’s Como Te Llama?, Sunny Day Sets Fire’s Summer Palace, and an EP from Architecture in Helsinki. there are some great albums this week. i think the ’sleeper’ has to be Feral Children. i have been loving the EP they have been offering for free and just picked up the full length yesterday, and it’s quite solid. if you’re into dark, experimental indie rock, this album is for you.
This new Beck is some mellow gold, er… I mean, good chill out music. Very groove-based, with some occasional Spoon-esque swagger…
That Sunny Day Sets Fire record is out of this world. “Smallest Heart on Hearth” is stunning.
I’m digging the new Beck, but not blown away. It’s fun though.
Really enjoying that Albert Hammond, Jr., album quite a bit.
Sunny Day Sets Fire’s album is fantastic. My favorite summer album of the year.
Yeah, I was very surprised with the Sunny Day album. I think the name of the band would lead you to believe that they would sound like something completely different.
Dude, Modern Guilt such a waste of time, check out Steve Wynn’s new record!
Beck is always consistent although Mutations will always be his best imo
