It’s amazing what you can find while bumming around the internet in the wee hours of the morning. Through a series of links, I was led to Geekologie, which posted a series of videos of the Showbiz Pizza animatronic band, the Rock-afire Explosion. I’m not sure how popular Showbiz Pizza or Chuck E. Cheese were in your neck of the woods, but here in the South – it was the best place ever for anyone under 10-years-old. In retrospect, the place wasn’t really much outside of arcade machines, a ball pit and all the pizza you could get your filthy little paws on. I remember being able to go to Showbiz maybe twice, but I don’t remember much of it, outside of spending vast amounts of tokens on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game.
Back to the Rock-afire Explosion, in which anyone who has ever been to either of these places should remember. Frankly, the thought of it should be burned into your memory because they were creepy as hell. I’m watching these videos right now and they are still creepy as fuck. Anyways, the original programmers of the show have been re-programming these piles of crap to play new songs. Here’s a few interesting videos of the animatronics performing songs from The White Stripes and MGMT. One other little tidbit, there seems to be a set available on eBay for $14,000. I say we all pool our money together and take this to next year’s SXSW.
MP3: MGMT – “Electric Feel (Justice Remix)”
I swear, I just know that i’m going to have nightmares from this tonight.

Especially when the eyes cross during conquest. Oh man, that is creepy.
Hahaha… ah, memories of Chuck E. Cheese growing up in California are flooding back right now, whether I want them to or not!
I love the crossed eyes in “Conquest”, but “Smooth Criminal” is the creepiest to me. Yep, good old-fashioned nightmare fuel all around. Nothing like watching creepy animatronics sing lyrics like
“He Came Into Your Apartment
He Left The Bloodstains On The Carpet
Then You Ran Into The Bedroom
You Were Struck Down
It Was Your Doom”
“Smooth Criminal”
they were in the electric feel video too no?
