I’m a bit late with posting these new Ratatat songs that have been making the rounds, but hey, i’m still in catch up mode over here – so give me a break! Actually, I just listened to the Brooklyn duo’s upcoming third full-length, LP3, over the weekend, and something that really struck a chord with me is how they’ve managed to utilize 8-bit sounds in an almost organic, natural way. In my opinion, anytime I hear a band that tries to incorporate this into their sound, it just comes off as gimmicky. I’m a gamer, so of course I love these kinds of sounds, but unless I feel the need for nostalgia, there’s no need to beat me over the head with it.

For an example of the right way to incorporate these nintendo sounds, check out this new track from Ratatat called “Mirando.” Also, the video kicks my ass – anyone who uses a bunch of scenes from Predator deserves a medal. A medal of
awesome.

How about Dura? Sounds like a modern-day take on the Tetris theme.
