Despite the fact that they may never get out from under the Elliott Smith comparisons, Earlimart have been making consistently good indie pop for a while now- softly breathy vocals, rhythmic acoustic strumming, and little flourishes of synth, all wrapped around strong (yet mellow) melodies. On July 1st, Earlimart is back with Hymn and Her, and the two tracks floating around the blogosphere have me looking forward to it. This time the album was recorded with just Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray, the two singers, and takes a more stripped-down approach than in the past. I’m expecting that July 1st will be a good day for indie pop… Enjoy!
