Back in January I mentioned that one of my favorite bands right now, The Radio Dept., were set to release a brand new record some time this year. At the time, it appeared to be sooner, rather than later, as all signs pointed to a release sometime in the spring. According to Labrador, those plans have gone kaput, as the still untitled album has been delayed till September. Very sad, yeah? But not to fear, as news has arisen that an EP titled Freddie & The Trojan Horse is set to be released on June 4.
The title track had been made available on Pitchfork since last week, but I had only just found it yesterday. Of course, the song is gorgeous, even though I have no clue what Johan Duncanson is singing about. That seems to be the case for nearly all the songs (unless I look up lyrics), but the songs are always gorgeous pieces of work that it doesn’t really matter to me what he’s singing about.
Listen to it below, and let me know what you think! It kills me that we have to wait till September for a full-length, but I think an early EP will satisfy me just fine. I think as the year continues, that this will probably be my most anticipated album of the year.

Nice. I like their sound.
Yeah, it’s a pretty unique thing they’ve got going there. Looking forward to the EP as well as the new album. Feel free to post some more of the new stuff as it becomes available.
Yes, finally something new from them. I’ve been mesmerized by them since last spring, with nothing new coming out in the meantime.
Well, it’s brilliant again, isn’t it? Ooooh, how I’ve been itching for this. And if it’s anything list the rest of the new album, we’re really in for a treat. Continues to puzzle me how The RD succeed in making something so innovative and captivating out of something which is basically really pretty straightforward. And Johan is a master at driving the lyrics home and making them stick. Call me thick, but I didn’t understand the political undertones of the lyrics until a mate made me aware of the fact. Yes, it’s also my most anticipated album of the year.
thanks for letting me know about this track beforehand.. i love it
thanks so much for this. The new track really didnt grab me like all their other stuff. But I cant wait till the album comes out and the song will probably grow on me. Although I do like ‘Bachelor Kisses’. It sounds more like them. I’m still trying to find out if they will ever tour in the U.S
been listening to this on repeat for the last few days. beautiful and haunting like all radio dept. tracks, and yeah i agree that’s it’s been too long since pet grief. i had no idea about the political undertones either, but it definitely warranted some research. radio dept. take a while to get things right (as evidenced by them scrapping pet grief when it was almost finished and starting on a wholly new album) but it is SO worth the wait.
