The last few days, I’ve been addicted to piano instrumentals, and I’ve decided to share some of what I’ve been listening to. This assortment of tracks ranges from neo-classical gems from Eluvium and Dustin O’Halloran to jazz to a classical reworking of a Guided By Voices classic. I recommend downloading the mix, picking up a good book, and relaxing on the sofa while allowing the sounds to fill the room around you. That’s what I’ve been up to (especially since I’ve been sick and not really able to do much else!)… Enjoy!
Oh, and for those of you wondering about the photo – it’s real. Check it out here.

Can’t wait till listen to all of this at work tonight. Already love a few of these choices that I happen to recognize right off the bat.
Wow – dont often listen to piano music but a fantastic choice of tunes.
Have been listening thru my stereo – brilliant!!!! Am going to track down CD’s
by Eluvium & Sigor Ros over the ‘net. This is what The Hype Machine is all about!!
Would never have heard these tunes but for this site, Thanks ‘Yellow Stereo’
Check 65 Days of Static – Radio Protector.
A little more epic / less melancholy, but still pretty awesome.
oh this is a lovely playlist. quite interesting performance video there with the burning piano as well. thanks!
Check out Avril 4th by Aphex Twin, it’s the perfect piano track.
Thanks CK and Will for those rec’s… I’ve been hearing about 65daysofstatic for forever, and now that I had that push to listen to them a little closer, I’m really glad I did. And I was surprised that beautiful little piano number came from Aphex Twin! Aphex Twin’s music has always been something I respected, but didn’t really enjoy a whole lot. Maybe after a few years it’s time to give him another shot!
If piano instrumentals are the highlight of the moment, many great contemporary composers are worth checking out. Chief among them Michael Nyman (The Piano), Max Richter (Stranger Than Fiction), and Yann Tiersen (Good Bye Lenin).
love this post!
Hey man,
If you haven’t already, i advise you to check out ‘Grant Buell’ and his Elliott Instrumental, it may blow your socks off, or make you cry, or both!
I love Dustin O’Halloran. I just came upon your post, excellent choices. Elliott Smith’s “bye” is heart melting, if not breaking.
