The annual indiepop/twee summer camp that is the Athens Popfest has officially announced it’s 2008 lineup over on it’s website, and believe me, it’s quite the…err…it’s a fucking excellent lineup! With all of these summer festivals looming on the horizon, I wasn’t sure which one I wanted to attend. But it just so happens that when the presale began for Popfest, I instantly decided to grab passes for it, pretty much cementing this as the only festival that I will be attending this year. This will be my first time attending, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Check out the lineup below, as Popfest is slated to be on August 12-16. This isn’t a complete list as there are still 16 more bands yet to be announced! I’ll probably do a mini-preview of most of the bands sometime soon, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

So excited for this year. The first chunk of that list is exciting, and I’m sure I’ll see some cool new stuff from the back end (other than Umbrella Tree and Allison Weiss, whom I already dig). I think this will be my only fest this year too.

i’m pretty jazzed with the inclusion of some of the smaller acts like The Afternoon Naps, Besties, and Panda Riot. Looking forward to previewing a lot of these though.

Robert Schneider really likes Laminated Cat, and I missed their day show last year because of an orientation thing at work. Have to check them out.

  4. Derek says:

Oh Sanders and Oh Fortuna will be incredible!

Let me echo the sentiment of one of your comments on your blog, Rich, over not seeing Tullycraft on the lineup this year. That kills me, no Pains of Being Pure at Heart either :(

Still though, 16 more bands, so who knows.

I miss having free weekends or I’d totally drive/fly down. I can’t believe that I still haven’t seen the fucking Apes. They’re a DC band but – hasn’t happened yet.
