Amelia is really a Portland band, not an individual singer-songwriter (in fact, the singer is named Teisha). But, despite that little bit of name deception, they really are fine purveyors of indie folk-rock with a dash of southwestern flavor, kind of like Calexico fronted by a woman (and with fewer mariachi bands). Their most recent album, A Long Lovely List of Repairs, is a solid disc of mid-tempo songs, mostly driven my acoustic guitars. Lead singer Teisha Helgerson has a gentle voice that sounds vulnerable in a way that really fits the music. The band never goes flashy, instead opting for simplicity and understatement, and the result is a mellow, lovely album.
