If you didn’t know already, Mates of State are releasing a new album on Barsuk Records. That’s exciting news because seriously, who doesn’t love this band? If I had it my way, all bands from here on out would comprise of duos. Whether it be husbands/wives, boyfriends/girlfriends, pirates/ninjas — you name it; one really can’t go wrong when you’re making music as an indie-pop duo.

To convey my excitement over this album, i’ve pretty much spent the better part of the last hour reading a book while constantly looking back to my computer to replay this video for the band’s new single “Get Better.” The track is fantastic, and is proof that the band still knows how to lay down their irresistible hooks and simplistic production. Surprisingly, there are a few added touches of depth that can be heard throughout the song which include a hint of strings in the background, along with layered vocal harmonies that slowly leads to a delightful build-up towards the end of the song.

Also to my surprise, audio for “Get Better” has been made available, as I grabbed this from Music For Kids Who Can’t Read Good (Thanks Taylor!). The quality isn’t that great, but i’m sure Barsuk will release something official in the coming weeks. For now though, this will have to do. The new album Re-Arrange Us is due out on May 20th, and I can’t wait to hear it!
