Damn, Conan O’Brien surely has struck gold this week with the amazing list of musical talent that performed on his show. Kicking off with that excellent performance from Grizzly Bear, and following it up over the next couple of days with She & Him and Radiohead. I seriously need TiVo or something, because I can’t seem to remember to ever tune in to watch anything after a certain time.

She & Him (M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel) performance had a little bit more ‘oomph’ to it considering the backing band was none other than Yo La Tengo. Now, I have no issues admitting how much i’ve enjoyed listening to Volume One, as it’s a surprisingly solid release. I’d just be a little weary over all the somewhat negative press over their live shows. A good live performance goes a long way towards solidifying an album’s status, so hopefully Zooey’s able to get all the kinks out before any kind of extensive touring.

Radiohead also stopped by (sort of…) the following night for Late Night’s “green show,” who by the way were Conan’s first-ever musical guest in 1993, recorded a live performance of the very excellent “House of Cards” in London to as the environmentally conscious Thom Yorke mentions in his introduction, “recycle your shopping bags!” Yes, indeed we shall.

I actually saw the She & Him performance and didn’t post it, because I didn’t think it was very impressive. Specifically, I didn’t think Zooey was very good. I also hope they get the live performance down if they plan to tour much in support of the record.

Yeah, i’m not exactly thrilled with this performance either. She looks a bit..actually extremely stiff up there on stage. Should almost be thankful to have all that star power with her.

Do you like the album at all?

  3. Pablo says:

Conan tends to have pretty good musical guests on his show!

PJ, I do like the album. It’s not amazing, but I think it’s good. I wish they’d left off the Beatles cover…

She was so hot in that movie. That’s some serious Linda McCartney tambourine going on up there.
