It’s been a while since i’ve listened to Ladytron, let alone anything new from the Liverpool quartet. Since the release of Witching Hour back in 2005, I never really kept up with the group too much, so it’s a pleasant surprise that we get a sneak peak of their upcoming 4th studio album, Velocifero, which was apparently self-produced with assistance from Vicarious Bliss (aka Andy Gardiner from Ed Banger Records) and Alessandro Cortini.

The album is set to be released on June 3rd, and the first track we get to sample is “Black Cat,” which finds Mira Aroyo singing in her native Bulgarian over this very dense sounding vortex of bass, drum beats, and synths.

I think it’s fantastic that the band continues to make music, considering a lot of their counterparts of that time have since gone the way of the Dodo. Previous albums 604 and Light & Magic still manage to find regular rotation around here, and I would like to think that the music has aged considerably well over the years. I definitely have high hopes for this one.
