If there is one thing you can count on in regards to Pixar filmmaking, it’s that you can almost guarantee a product that’s refreshingly original. They have one of the most pristine track records in the business, and can pretty much do no wrong in my eyes*. In the case of the upcoming WALL-E, I honestly had no idea what this film was about. I remember watching the short Super Bowl spot, which didn’t explain too much besides this tiny robot looking like some bastard son of Johnny 5 from Short Circuit.
Well, I just watched the first full trailer, and damn – this is exactly how a trailer should be made. It hits just the right notes in a short period of time; as it made me laugh, along with making my heart flutter a bit as it showed the little robot’s quest for companionship. I’m sure it might seem silly having a full-grown man reacting this way to something which could be broken down into just silly cartoons, but if animated masterpieces like Spirited Away and The Iron Giant have a thing to say; it’s that you can never underestimate the power of a good animated film.
Check out the trailer for yourself above, and see if you agree with me that this just became one the most anticipated films of the summer.
*except maybe Cars, which I never had any interest in seeing.
