After many weeks and months of putting off posting The Sunday Shuffle, i’ve finally gotten around to putting together a set of songs for your weekly enjoyment. For those unfamiliar, every Sunday (for the most part) I would tackle any number of randomly selected songs – the format would change every so often, but the result remained the same.
Early this morning, after another wasted night here in Auburn sitting around with people who’s company I don’t even enjoy, I decided to rip a few cds – actually, a lot of cds – that had been sitting in a case in the back of my car for almost four to five years. What’s special about this case is that about 90% of it contains albums from 2003, which is pretty much the year that I really cemented my taste in music into what it is right now. There hasn’t been a year since that i’ve bought as many cds, and with digital downloading now becoming the norm — it’s possible that this feat will probably never present itself again.
I’m actually quite proud of most of the music that I managed to discover at the time, because there were no blogs, or anything of the kind to educate a guy from Alabama trying to break out of his love for all things Britpop & electronica (still love them both though). Anyways, here are some tracks that I culled from the albums that I uploaded onto my iTunes this morning. Are there any albums or songs from 2003 that come to mind that you would’ve included? Let me know!

I love the music from 2003 and I love this list. Here are some other favourites from 2003 (at least I think they’re from 2003):
M83 – Run Into Flowers
Cat Power – Shaking Paper
Damien Rice – The Blower’s Daughter
Fourtet – As Serious As Your Life
Great list. I love that you included “For What Its Worth,” it’s from one of the most criminally underrated pop albums of that year. How about from 2003:
Calexico – “Corona”
David Dondero – “The Living & The Dead”
Erykah Badu – “Love of My Life”
Dizzee Rascal – “Round We Go”
Juana Molina – “Misterio Uraguayo”
Ryan Adams – “Do Miss America”
um, just off the top of my head.
2003 was a good year indeed… I would have also added:
The Format – “At The Wake”
The Flaming Lips – “Do You Realize??? (Postal Service Remix)”
Kenna – “Freetime”
Best. Sunday Shuffle. Ever. Get out of my head!!
Yeah, that Cardigans record is soooo good. It almost feels like it could’ve easily been a Nina Persson solo release.
That M83 track is from 2004 I think, otherwise I would’ve included it. Lots of good stuff I left off, but the cut off point for me was 20. Glad everyone enjoyed the list though
I forgot about some of these songs. Thanks for the reminder.
Ah, yes, Nina Persson, a vocalist I could never do without. I can’t wait for her new A Camp record this year. She’s been dusting off a few songs from her 2001 solo record in NYC and I was hoping her and Nathan Larson would land in Austin for SXSW, alas…
Yes, 2003 was a great year from music, oh, man. definitely thanks for the memories….
Fantastic set! Thanks so much. I don’t know if it plunks your twanger, but I’ve always been partial to Grandaddy’s “Sumday,” a mid-2003 release. Thanks again for all the great music, in this post and all the time.
thanks! Grandaddy would’ve been on here, but apparently I didn’t own a copy of Sumday
I’m thinking of starting from 2001 and progressing up to 2005 with the next handful of Sunday Shuffles. Too bad I don’t really remember what came out in 2001….
