Before the beginning of this week, I had no knowledge of who Fleet Foxes were – even their band name was a complete mystery to me. For months, all I had was this one song that I had been playing over and over without any hint as to where this could’ve possibly came from. It wasn’t until earlier in the week that I started googling lyrics (I never do this) from the song that I finally found out that it was called “White Winter Hymnal.” It’s such a gorgeous song, as the the vocal harmonies have this warmth to it that’s very beautiful and moving. I guess the obvious comparisons would be My Morning Jacket, but I find this brand of country folk-pop or whatever you want to call it from Fleet Foxes to be much more comforting and endearing.
After digging around for more information, it appears that the band has made quite a name for itself within Seattle and around the blogs. They’ve also recently signed to Sub Pop, in which their debut will be out sometime in the summer. As of late February, a five-song tour EP called Sun Giant was made available, though i’ve yet to pick that one up.
It goes without saying, but I will anyways: Fleet Foxes should be a name to remember; as i’m certain that you will be hearing about them more as the year progresses. Also, as a little tidbit to any of our Atlanta readers, the band will be performing tonight at the Drunken Unicorn with label mates Blitzen Trapper. If I happen to get off work early again today, I might have to make the trip to see these guys.

PJ, I was much like you. I’ve heard White Winter Hymnal on the radio many times, not knowing who the band was. But know I don’t think I’ll ever not know their name. Dramatic, eloquent, powerful, just hauntingly beautiful. They are heavenly bliss.
