It has been an incredibly long wait since Germany’s The Notwist graced us with their 2002 album, Neon Golden – six years in fact. An album that frequently still finds it’s way into rotation, and completely obliterated what I thought was possible with electronic music. I remember for a few years after Neon Golden’s release, I would follow whatever side projects Markus Acher would venture into – including his collaboration on Lali Puna’s 2004 release Faking the Books. I kind of just gave up after that, i mean its seriously been way too long!
Of course, i’m ecstatic to finally hear some new material from the group, as we have a small taste of what’s in store from their upcoming album, The Devil, You + Me. It’ll be released in North America on Domino in early June, composing of 11 tracks – the first of which you can listen to below. “Good Lies” is such an excellent track, as it pulsates with catchy electric guitars, while Markus Archer maintains his signature mournful, yet hopeful vocals. Also, if you head over to the band’s official website, you can watch some behind-the-scenes recording footage. Ah, I’m really looking forward to this one.
