It’s been a while since i’ve posted anything, and I wholeheartedly apologize for that. Sure, it could be easy to post some random bit of tour date news or whatever, but I would hate to just put up a bunch of half-assed posts. That being said, it’s time to start everything back up the right way….with something completely different and random.
One thing i’m dying to talk about is this little addiction of mine that has manifested over the past few days. Apparently, this has been floating around for a while, but i’m just now discovering it. You basically come up with random band name, along with album title and cover art in four little simple steps.
1. Go to the Wikipedia random article page. Whatever the title of the article is, that’s your band name. This is actually a lot of fun by itself, but we’re not done yet.
2. Check out random quotations. Go to the very last quote on the page. The last four words of that last quote are your album title.
3. Hit up Flickr’s “interesting photos from the last seven days” section. The third picture on the page, no matter what it is, is your album cover.
4. Use Photoshop or MS Paint to combine all these things into something coherent looking.
This is basically what i’ve been spending all my free time doing. Literally hours, upon hours of fun has magically opened up for me. I’ve come up with some crazy shit, so let’s take a look, while I also try to decipher all of this mess. I’m also including some songs from a mix I made for a drive back home from Atlanta one night for kicks.

The Legacy of Luna :: Failure May Be Your Style
First off, we have what sounds like a Luna cover band that has made it big! Who knew that covering the band’s lovely dream-pop could get you somewhere. I could be wrong, and this could possibly be something much, much worse.
“Lovedust” :: Luna
“Wait For Me” :: Dean & Britta

Nassau Elementary School :: Sensible Tokens Of Your Love
Based off this cover art, I imagine this as one guy who decided to use his elementary school as his moniker. It also looks quite bleak, so I have a feeling he could be into instrumental hip hop ala DJ Shadow. That album title is too lame though, and doesn’t really make much sense in the overall scheme of things.
“All I Need” :: Radiohead
“M62 Song” :: Doves

Women on Top :: Success Only Hurts The First Time
I shit you not, the complete randomnization of this experiment gave birth to this. Which could quite possibly be the greatest band on earth. The album cover seems to be a bit cluttered, and almost feels like some rejected Valentine’s Day card more than anything else. This actually seems like something that a bunch of aspiring punk-rock girls would decide to create, where the band name and song titles were more important than actually creating good music. The Parental Advisory logo gives some street cred, though, i’m sure.
“How My Heart Behaves” :: Feist
“Roll On (Ft. Jenny Lewis)” :: Dntel

Eleventh Dream Day :: There’s Nothing Wrong With Being Alone
This almost sounds like a half-decent twee/indie-pop group. One of the few times everything managed to come together quite well. I’m sure I would give this a shot if I saw this on Cloudberry, wouldn’t you?
“Sturdies Bay” :: The Softies
“Nothing Really Happened” :: Math and Physics Club

Bell the Cat :: Actually, I’m a Giraffe
Finally, we have my absolute favorite, Bell the Cat! I wonder if this is actually a real band, because it sure as hell could be. The album art actually looks respectable; two kids in Waldo costumes with that awesome album title splattered over them. Genius?! We can only hope….
“I Don’t Know If She’s Worth 900 Kronor” :: Jens Lekman
“I Box Up All The Butterflies” :: The Boy Least Likely To
Now that you’ve seen how retarded I can be with my time, it wouldn’t hurt to try this out for yourself. Believe me, after the first one, you’ll be hooked. Let’s see what you come up with!

Introducing my band
Littlefield, Texas
and our debut album
A person of breeding
Our album cover is lame, just a tree in bloom.
Eleventh Dream Day is an actual band–from Chicago, I think. The drummer also plays in Freakwater.
My record-
Cricketer :: Anyone Can Be A Cynic (unfortunately the antique craft table cover art kind wasn’t nearly as good as the band and album names)
A lot of these turn out pretty well, I was surprised. But outside of the five I have posted, there are about 15 other ones that are absolute shit. Still a lot of fun though!
Brilliant post! Funniest thing I’ve read in awhile.
Eleventh Dream Day actually makes me think of a Fall Out Boy wanna-be band…
And here’s my entry, a new industrial techno group:

It has quite an ECM feel to it, I think.
that is brilliant! nicely done.
ELEVENTH DREAM DAY…
I can’t tell if you are kidding… so I don’t know whether to laugh out loud or read you the riot act. Let me just say that you picked the WRONG BAND to use as a “joke” (if that’s what it was meant to be.) So…if you are REALLY fans of music, allow me to EDUCATE regarding this HUGE gap in your musical backgrounds.
ELEVENTH DREAM DAY are from CHICAGO and have been making incredible records for over 25 years with the same core line-up and are one of the FINEST bands of the rock era. If you don’t believe me, just look up their entry on the http://www.ALLMUSICGUIDE.com site. Their most recent record – ZEROES AND ONES – from last year (2006) was, without question, one of the year’s top releases, appearing on numerous year-ending TOP 50 lists.
A few years back, ROLLING STONE called EDD “… one of the most CRIMINALLY under-appreciated bands of our generation…”
As one of your more enlightened readers noted above, Janet Bean, the drummer and co-lead vocalist, was one of the FOUNDERS of FREAKWATER. In addition, the bassist – DOUG McCOMBS (very possibly the FINEST bass player in the history of rock…) was also a FOUNDER of the post-rock band TORTOISE (heard of THEM?…maybe?). They are also very tied-in with YO LA TENGO and have toured with them often. Individual EDD members have also guested on many of YO LA TENGO’s records.
Their sound is nearly impossible to describe, but they are certainly NOT… “…a half-decent twee/indie-pop group…”, as described above. WHAT A FUCKING RIOT!!! If only you knew! They are a bit POP… a bit JAZZ… a bit COUNTRY … a LOT paint-peeling GUITAR ROCK.
But a couple things they are NOT are TWEE and “HALF-DECENT…”.
Here are a few links to some DIVSHARE downloads, if you’d like to actually like to LISTEN to the music before branding it so incredibly incorrectly!

my favourite result was the band EASTER ISLAND and their record “purpse in life”
The album cover is a girl lounging in an unmade bed.
