There are a couple of albums out on this Leap Year week that you should certainly get your hands on, which otherwise is relatively minor in regards to the amount of new releases. I’ve mentioned Beach House’s sophomore LP Devotion many, many times over the past few months, so of course, I can’t recommend this one enough. It never really touches on the same emotions as the first album, but the songwriting and music is definitely stronger and more focused this time around. And as evidence from a few tracks like “You Came To Me” and “Astronaut,” the duo have certainly figured out how to end songs on a high note. Many times I would find myself just listening to the very last parts of songs over and over again.
A few more notable albums this week include Tift Merritt’s Another Country, Ghostland Observatory’s Robotique Majestique and Goldfrapp’s Seventh Tree. Speaking of the latter, am I the only one that thinks the cover art with Alison Goldfrap ends up making her look a lot like an older version of an Olsen twin? Maybe it’s just me. Oh! I also can’t forget this gem I noticed on the release list, The Bridal Shop’s From Seas EP – which has been available on CD-R since mid-2007 – seems to have been officially released. Definitely worth checking out for the twee-popster hidden in all of you.

Beach House :: Devotion

The Bridal Shop :: From Seas EP

China Forbes :: ‘78

The Dirtbombs :: We Have You Surrounded

Ghostland Observatory :: Robotique Majestique

Goldfrapp :: Seventh Tree

La Scala :: The Harlequin EP

Laura Barrett :: Earth Sciences
