This week we’re treated to a deluge of new releases; so many, in fact, that I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve yet to listen to many of these, which currently sit on my overflowing stack of promo discs waiting to be heard. A few that I can recommend right now include the sophomore effort Some Racing, Some Stopping from Headlights, Throw Me the Statue’s Moonbeams and The Raveonettes’ Lust Lust Lust.
I just received the new Mountain Goats album, so i’m very anxious to find out what John Darnielle has in store for us this time around. I’ve also been told so many times how great Bon Iver’s For Emma, Forever Ago is, but for some reason or another I just haven’t given it a chance yet. And has anyone heard this Atlas Sound album yet? I just realized this is a solo project of Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox. Not that i’m some huge fan of theirs, but i’m curious as to how good this is, if at all. Any other recommendations? Hopefully, I didn’t miss anything – considering there’s more than enough to listen to this week.

I keep playing the “About To Walk” track. Thanks!
re: Atlas Sound – the MP3 that you posted up there is a fairly good indication of what it sounds like.. It’s very good, but it’d be preferrable if you have an inclination towards the Eno-ish\droney ambience side of things, because about half of the tracks are more like noise washes than ’songs’ as such. Give ‘River Card’ and ‘Recent Bedroom’ a listen, the whole thing is streaming on his myspace page.
richie has it right.
i really do like the atlas sound record, about as much as the deerhunter album, which i thoroughly enjoyed. he keeps the drone tracks to a more tolerable level and the “actual songs” are quite good.
Moonbeams by Throw me the Statue is awesome. I’ve been listening to it for a few months now and I can say that the beautiful track About to Walk is one of my least favourite songs now. And that says it all… The somewhat offkey singing, the raw instruments en quirky sounds. Really nice.
“THE RACE” by THE HEAVENLY STATES is pretty rocking. It reminds me of a mash of THE CLASH, THE HOLD STEADY & BUILT TO SPILL….hmmm, intriguing….
Oh wow, thanks for such a sampler!
