I cannot tell you how excited I am to know that Swedish femme fatale, El Perro Del Mar (Sarah Assbring) is set to release her sophomore follow-up to her outstanding self-titled debut on April 22nd. The album titled From The Valley To The Stars, will first be released in Scandinavia on February 27th.
When I first heard her debut in 2006, it completely came out of nowhere and I instantly fell in love with it upon first listening to it. It’s that voice of hers that comes off as very fragile and innocent, yet mysterious. It’s almost like I feel this need to protect the person behind that voice from any kind of harm that may come upon it. Yeah, weird I know!
Here’s a little quote regarding the new record’s sound, courtesy of The Tripwire:
“I wanted to make something as unfashionable as an album in the classic sense of the word – in terms of its composition and the idea of a theme. The theme itself was initially something as simple yet complex as heaven and it led me into a wide and seemingly endless search for a means, a language in which to express myself. Although during this time I was, even though I mostly didn’t realize it, following a certain train of thought – that of love, grief and loss, solace and hope, deepest despair and wildest childish euphoria – to the lowest and the highest of heights.”
The new single, “How Did We Forget” can be heard below (thanks MOKB), and can be picked up as a 7″ vinyl single beginning on February 13. It’s a great little track that sounds like it’s straight out of some 60’s spy flick. Love it!

I’m a little disappointed by the album so far, but I’m definitely going to give it a few more listens before I come down with the wrath of my judgement.
