The first time I listened to Kaki King was back in 2006, when she released her album …Until We Felt Red. It was such a wonderful listening experience, as I was completely amazed at her amazing guitar ability. That album was basically a complete showcase of that ability as it was primarily comprised of instrumental acoustic guitar. Occasionally, the album would grace us with a few precious tracks that would involve Kaki’s lovely singing voice.

Seriously though, this woman is supremely talented (did I mention she’s from Atlanta?), which is evident from the very first moments of “2 O’Clock,” the very first track from the forthcoming album Dreaming of Revenge. The song starts off so delicately, as it’s exactly the kind of thing I would love to listen to on the back porch on some random day during a lazy afternoon. It continues to build up until we hear that acoustic solo in the middle of the song. Absolutely incredible, as it’s played with almost like this kind of hushed fury and intensity that I can’t even describe. We also get to hear her voice, which hopefully we’re able to have more of with the new album. Either way, I still can’t wait to listen to this.

With what feels like an over-saturated market for female singer-songwriters, hopefully Kaki King can find herself a nice and cozy niche with this new record. Check it out when it’s released on March 11.
