It’s been nearly five years since a film from Paul Thomas Anderson has graced a theater screen. I adore his filmmaking talent and I consider him one of the few directors that currently perfects the use of music in film. I’ve been keeping up with his latest film There Will Be Blood, based on the novel Oil! by Upton Sinclair, since mid-2006 and i’m still surprised I haven’t brought it up here on the blog as of yet. Partly because I wanted to put together another edition of “Films on the Mind” (here and here) that highlighted some of PTA’s previous films, but that hasn’t been touched upon yet because i’m just so incredibly lazy to start on it.
One of the reasons that i’m discussing the film now is because of the score that comes from Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, which was first heard on the recent trailer that was released in early November. I’m not sure when the score will be available for purchase, though presumably, we could expect it sometime this month. Two of the tracks can be heard via SpoutBlog, which you can hear below as i’ve posted the embedded player.
Sometimes it’s difficult for me to be excited about films, considering I probably won’t be able to see a majority of these (No Country for Old Men, Juno, etc.) until they’ve been released on DVD, because of where I live. For example, Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited is finally showing in my town’s theater. How depressing is that? Very.
