As promised, I return post Christmas with the family to bring you my past year in shows. Its been the best year I have ever had for shows, and as always, I was sad (and poor) that I couldn’t see more, because some stellar shows were missed.
I am going to list the bands that I was able to see this year, and then some highlights. A mix of tracks follows at the end.
SHOWS:
The Hold Steady/ The Ratchets/ Wolverton Bros. – Newport, Ky (Southgate House)
The Hold Steady/ The Thermals – Columbus, OH (Newport Music Hall) – St. Pattys Day
The Hold Steady/ Ted Leo and the Pharmacists/ Matt and Kim – Covington, Ky (Madison Theater)
Bloc Party/ Albert Hammond Jr./ Sebastian Grainger – Chicago, IL (Congress Theater)

Of Montreal/ Lonely, Dear – Newport, Ky (Southgate House)
Girl Talk/ Spencer Yeh – Cincinnati, OH (Alchemize)

Being from the Cincinnati area, I am pretty much forced to travel to see some good shows. Having friends that want to travel and see shows is a plus. You can also see I saw a number of the same bands more than once. This is because they put on awesome shows.
Some highlights of the year include these things:
- Seeing The Hold Steady on St. Patty’s Day (Lots of Drinking and great music)
- Girl Talk Show (I was right next to Greg watching him mix while I danced)
- Talking to a number of the Bands that I saw
- Bloc Party shows, Great Music, Plus the Lights they use are awesome
- Of Montreal stage theatrics (Kevin Barnes is incredible)
- VHS or Beta dance music
- Eat Sugar my new local favorite band
- Meeting The National, and talking with their friends and family (they are from Cincy)
- Driving from Cincy to Asheville, NC (5 hours) during Exam week, seeing a show/partying til 3am, then driving back the next day to take two more final exams
- Matt and Kim just rocking out!

I think I barely broke 10 shows this year….so sad
The Hold Steady and Ted Leo at the same time…
jeez.
I saw The National with St Vincent in Birmingham, England. It was a really good show.
Cincinnati? Right on. I thought me and my friend were the only people from Cincy at the Bloc Party show in Chicago–bad ass concert, no doubt.
